I borrowed quite a few items to paint from the witches but the scarf seemed to carry me beyond material reality most easily. It is painted simply. It is articulated enough to represent a scarf while leaving space for the viewer to drive a truck through. It is a scarf from the Geseke Witches, a group of women in Geseke who bring a splash of color to local events. They keep traditions alive and support a variety of public gatherings. One of the things that draws me to Germany is the traditions and the clubs and organizations that sustain them.
